MILWAUKEE — Who ya gonna call?
Mookie Betts called AirBnB again. Last year when the Dodgers played in Milwaukee, Betts did not stay at the team hotel – an allegedly haunted building in downtown Milwaukee – opting for a presumably specter-free rental where he could record his podcast and not worry about finding out for himself if the ghost stories are true.
“You can tell me what happened after,” he said last year. “I just don’t want to find out myself.&rd

Their guidance has been invaluable.
Going from safety to cornerback might not seem like a drastic change. But, as Woods has learned, there are differences great and small between the positions. Mastering those d

At the DNC, Orange County’s delegates find an energetic, but emotional, environment
22-08-2024 01:06 via ocregister.com
It’s been a medley of emotions — and hip-hop music — for local delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week.
The convention is part formality, the opportunity for Democrats to officially nominate Vice President Kamala Harris to lead their party’s presidential ticket, and part political theater, where heavyweight elected officials and activists and past presidents give rousing speeches to drum up optimism for the future of the party.
But the histori

Given the opportunity to park money with the world’s largest private equity firms, ordinary investors rushed in. Getting out might not be so easy.
The private equity firms began to seek out smaller investors almost a decade ago. It was a major shift for firms such as Blackstone, Starwood Capital Group and KKR that had previously been funded by enormous pensions, endowments and sovereign wealth funds. But it was also a way for the big fund managers to grow their assets and rake in ever larg

Dysfunctional, cronyist Biden family gets a phony send-off at the Democratic National Convention
22-08-2024 00:09 via ocregister.com
Like a family with dark secrets, the Democratic National Convention was radiant with fake smiles on Monday night as President Joe Biden and his family were praised, celebrated, marched into a dumpster and towed off the premises.
Some dysfunctional families become expert at keeping up appearances. They always seem to know the right thing to say to impress the neighbors, never letting on that anything is less than enviable.
So nobody laughed when Jill Biden claimed to have watched her husband make

Could Harris spur construction of 3 million new homes?
22-08-2024 00:01 via ocregister.com
Vice President Kamala Harris, as part of her presidential run, pledged recently to spur construction of 3 million new housing units in her first four years.
The campaign said Harris would propose a new tax incentive for companies that build homes for first-time buyers, and other programs, said The Wall Street Journal.
Promising the construction of new homes hasn’t worked out well in California. Gov. Gavin Newsom pledged in 2017 to build 3.5 million new homes by 2025. As of this summer, he&

When Dana McMahan sold her home this spring, she decided to try to maximize her take-home profit by skipping out on the help of a full-service Realtor.
Traditionally, home sellers in the US have been responsible for paying real estate commissions. The standard 5% or 6% commission was usually split between the seller’s broker and the buyer’s broker, referred to as cooperative compensation.

A measure of US mortgage applications for home purchases slid last week to the lowest level since February, indicating elevated housing prices are impeding a nascent upswing in demand from falling mortgage rates.

Kamala Harris is not a radical communist, but that makes her even more dangerous

Lately, Donald Trump and his team have taken to labeling their opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, as a far-left socialist—even a full-on communist. The strategy comes after an uncharacteristic lull in messaging from the former president and his team as they worked out how to prudently attack the vice president.
It’s the job of a presidential campaign to make people terrified about what’s in store for the country if the other side were to win. But there are several problems
